Our expert advice.

When it comes to transporting heat-sensitive products, the right isothermal packaging is much more than just a container: it's a guarantee of conformity, safety and performance.

Whether it's medicines, biological samples, food or veterinary products, maintaining the cold chain is essential.

But with so many different uses, how do you choose the right isothermal packaging? Here's our guide to help you avoid costly mistakes.

1. Set your target temperature range

This is the first question to ask: what is my target temperature range?

  • Fresh (2-8°C): vaccines, reagents, blood, perishable foods.
  • Controlled room temperature (15-25°C): standard pharmaceutical products, cosmetics.
  • Frozen (-18°C): specific food or veterinary products.

Every product has its own requirements. At MEDICOLD, we offer tried and tested solutions for all ranges.

2. Evaluate transport time and conditions

2-hour local delivery or 48-hour shipment in the middle of summer?

Thermal performance depends on several factors:

  • Outside temperature
  • Exposure time
  • Type of transport (ambulance, truck, plane...)

3. Choose the right format and level of robustness

Thermal efficiency also depends on proper sizing and physical protection.

Good to know: most of our isothermal packaging is available in several sizes, with or without accessories (coolers, separators, tracers, etc.).

Here are the main MEDICOLD isothermal packaging families:

Flexible insulated pouches : ideal for small volumes, samples, vaccines on the move.

Professional isothermal bags: sturdy, reusable, perfect for rounds or collections.

Rigid isothermal cases: designed for demanding environments (hospital, pharmaceutical, industrial).

ISOPRO packages: ready-to-use, thermally validated, designed for the medical and food industries.

Isothermal bins: stackable, sturdy, suitable for regular logistics flows.

Box pallets: high-volume solution, perfect for shared distribution or logistics platforms.

4. Integrate traceability into your shipments

Without proof of temperature maintenance, there is no safety or compliance.

Traceability has become essential, particularly in the pharmaceutical and agri-food sectors.

MEDICOLD offers several solutions:

Connected reusable electronic trackers

Single-use USB plotters, simple and effective

5. Opt for sustainable, compliant solutions

At MEDICOLD, we believe that good isothermal packaging should also be reusable, recyclable or eco-designed.

Our materials are selected for their durability, thermal performance and regulatory compliance.

In a nutshell: the 5 right questions to ask yourself

1. What is the temperature range to be respected?

2. What are the transport times and environmental conditions?

3. What is the volume transported and the type of handling planned?

4. Do you need an integrated traceability system?

5. Would you like a reusable, eco-responsible or customized solution?
